India
1840 to 1850 – Victoria Continuous Legend – Two Annas
Although
dated 1841, working dies were not completed until 1842. Bombay and Madras received the dies in March 1842 when
the coinage began. The Calcutta Mint did not begin striking this denomination
until 1844 [1].
As
with the other silver coins, the easiest way to identify the mints seems to be
the diameters although the difference between Calcutta (15.2-15.3mm) and Bombay (15.4-15.5mm) is very small.
