Note by Lingen At the "Deuxièmes
Rencontres de Numismatique Asiatique" (Versailles, 2016) and later at
the International Seminar on South Indian Numismatics "Nidhi-2018"
in Bengaluru, I presented a paper in which I came to the conclusion that
these Pondicherry type rupees with a "D" were struck at Alamparai,
under Governor Joseph François Dupleix, who received the fort of Alamparai in
1750 from the Subedar of the Deccan for services rendered by him. The D
represents the initial of Dupleix. |
