A coinage consisting of 4, 2 & 1 copper pice was struck at the Royal mint for use at Madras. Pridmore traced records indicating that 100 tons of copper coins were requested. A coin dated 1823 has recently come to light (Mahapatra, internet communication) and needs some further research.

The one pice denomination was also only issued in 1825. There are a number of reverse varieties associated with the diacritical marks on the reverse of the coin, and one strange piece that is probably a local copy.
