Royal Mint, London – Copper, Four Pice 1824 to 1825

A coinage consisting of 4, 2 & 1 copper pice was struck at the Royal mint for use at Madras. Pridmore traced records indicating that 100 tons of copper coins were requested. A coin dated 1823 has recently come to light (Mahapatra, internet communication) and needs some further research.

 

The arms of the Company with the date below. On the ribbon is the motto:

AUSP REGIS & SEN ANGLIAE

All within a raised toothed rim.

The value in Persian (= Chahar pai):

 

With the numeral 4 above and the AH year, 1240, below. This is surrounded by an open wreath. All with a raised, toothed border.
