History

See Nelson Wright

The reason for establishing a mint at Chhachraulī is not obvious. In 1799 Shimbunath, the officer in charge of the Bawani Mahal, in which Chhachraulī was situated, had risen against the Marathas but was ‘met and repulsed by a Moghul officer’ [1]. Perhaps this was the occasion for the issue of the coins – the date AH1215, Ry42 (1799/1800) would fit.
