Murtazabad is a small
Village in Mufti Ganj Tehsil in Jaunpūr District of Uttar Pradesh. It is
located in the Varanasi Division,19 KM towards East from District
head-quarters Jaunpūr. Such a mint name existed only on the Maratha coin
of the Maharashtra area which was the name given to Miraj. The occurrence of
similar names during the 18th -19thcentury from Uttar Pradesh is a good
addition to numismatic knowledge. This specimen was
found with coins of Murtazabad and hence it is a part of a currency bag from
Uttar Pradesh and Uttaranchal. As the coin was found it is certain that it
was minted by the Rohillas, most probably by Hafiz Rahmat Khan. |
