Marathas – Islāmābād Mint, INO ‘Ālamgir II – Gold

An interesting coin where the name of the ruler is inscribed with 'Alam' and 'Gir' joined together. It is difficult to know the issuer of these coins, but contenders are the Jats of Bharatpur or the Marathas. In 1756 the Marathas captured the town of Attock (now in north-west Pakistan). Most of these coins are reported to be found in Pakistan, so it is highly plausible that these coins could be struck by Marathas (comment from Oswal Auctions).
