Again a coin not published in the general reference books and catalogues of this series. The coin of exactly the same type is published in the book Coinage of Akbar by Andrew Liddle as S-20 and attributed to Chunar mint.
The Kalima on the obverse is written within a square with the names of the caliphs in the margins. The name of the emperor appears in a circle in the shape of a drop of liquid with the sharp point at the top, where also the date is located. The mint-name is in the margin at the bottom. On the coin published by Liddle and the above coin, hardly anything can be observed of the mint-name. Nevertheless it has, in this database, provisionally been attributed to Chunar.
It is described on page 45 as bearing the date AH965, however, on page 59 the date is given as AH967. Why this discrepancy in the reading. Indeed a 9 and a 6 can be observed, followed by a o and a v. This may have caused the confusion and the misreading of the date. In fact during this period the 5 was usually engraved as a sigma-like symbol ε. Therefore the correct reading of the date should be 967. The coin is illustrated on plate XIV.
