Akbar dam, Ahmednagar mint, 19.8gms..Ilahi 40, Isfandarmuz month.
In 1595AH (Ilahi 40), Prince Murad along with Khan-i-Khanan
Rahim Khan invested the southern Nizamshahi
kingdom of Ahmednagar and laid a seige to the
fortress of Ahmednagar.. Finally after a long seige,
a truce was reached between Murad and Chand Bibi, the valiant nizamshahi queen on 19th March 1596 which corresponds to
28th Isfandarmuz Ilahi 40. By the truce, Berar was
ceded to the Mughal and Bahadur Nizam Shah was rcognized as a mughal vassal..
The present coin bears a testimony to the first contact between Akbar and Nizamshahi kingdom which was later ultimately merged to the
Mughal empire in Ilahi 45.. This is perhaps the reason why these coins are so
rare.
