Moghul Empire – Akbar – Mangarh Mint, Copper – Type 1, Dam

Shailen wrote

The 'Mangarh'-type coins of Akbar are mainly of three types -
1. With Kalima on reverse
2. With 'al-Amir al-Hami al-Din al-Duniya' on reverse
3. With a legend that ends in 'Abu al-Muzaffar' (not fully read) on reverse.
Each of these types may be subdivided into variety A or variety B, depending on the direction of the Swastika on obverse....
This is a Dam of AH966,
Type 1, var.1 = Kalima rev, Swastika direction CW, 20.25 gm
(Ashmolean Collection)

'(a))l-Muzaffar' is clearly visible in this coin. On the other coin, it is wrongly engraved and looks like 'Zafar'.

Photo from Shrirang Purohit. Shailen wrote: These are all of Type 2, variety 1 by my classification. On most such coins, there is no trace of a mint-name. They are attributed to Mangarh only on the typological evidence of Type 1 coins, which do have the mint-name.

Photo from Bhandare. Mangarh - 1/4 Dam of Akbar, Type 3 = 'abu al-Muzaffar' legend on reverse, var. 1 = Swastika CW, 5.03 gm.
(Ashmolean Collection). This is the coin where مظفر is badly engraved and looks like ظفر
