Photo from Jain Hemanth Kumar. 1123/2. Date mismatch. Shailen said Farrukhsiyar had proclaimed himself emperor in 1123 - after he realized his father Azeem ush-Shan had been killed. However, RY2 on the reverse would be odd for AH1123! I think this is an example of an older obverse die being coupled with a newer reverse die. However, Jan Lingen said: I may have another view on this odd date combination of AH1123/Yr. Ahd and AH1123/Ry.2. On page 281 of Hodivala's book: Historical Studies in Mughal Numismatics, there is mentioned "An order was made that the reign of Jahandar Shah Shah should be considered as an adverse possession and that the reign of Muhammad Farrukhsiyar should date from the first of Rab'iu-l-awwal, 1123 AH [recte, 1124 AH]" If this error date was indeed mentioned in the Imperial order, far away mints may have not been aware of the correct ascension date. With the Imperial order of 9 Jumadi II 1125 (which is within Ry.2) the date of commencement of Farrukhsiyar's rule was fixed from the date of enthronement 29 Safar 1124. So I keep it to be an error or misreading of the first Imperial order.
