Part of my collection, Just enjoy
‘As’adnagar’ was the name given by Aurangzeb to Aklooj
situated in Solapur district of Maharashtra State, to celebrate the capture of
Maratha Chhatrapati Sambhaji in 1689. The mint was previously read as ‘Sa’adnagar’ as the initial ‘alif’ was not visible on coins
available to early 20th century numismatists. The ‘Alif’ is clearly visible on
this coin. RY5 is perhaps the alst RY known for the
mint to have functioned
