Around this time the most significant event that took place was the completion of the Taj Mahal, although that probably has little impact on Bengal, where this coin was struck. At this time, the governor of Bengal was Shah Shuja'a, the second son of the emperor and the years around 1653 were marked by the warming up of the Mughals to other Europeans like the English and the Dutch, to counter the influence of the Portuguese.
