Moghul Empire – Shāh Jahān – Ganjikot Mint, Gold

In 1650, Mir Jumla (1591-1663) conquered the nearly inaccessible Gandikota fort from Timma Nayar with the help of European Gunners. Gandikota became the stronghold of Mir Jumla, than the prime minister of the Qutb Shahi Sultans of Golkonda, but later defected to the Mughals. This gold coin, dated AH1068 (AD 1658) must have been struck by Mir Jumla II to prove his alliance with the Mughals.
