Photo from Shailen Bhandare who wrote: Shah Shuja'a is known to have struck coins at
Akbarnagar and Patna in the subah of Bengal. Katak is a new addition to the repertoire
of his mints. A coin of this type was published a long while ago in the
Indore-based journal JAINS, but wrongly attributed to Akbarnagar. Although
very little of the mint-name can be seen here, the style, the symbol, the
type all indicate without any doubt that this is an issue of Katak mint. I am
aware of at least one more piece where the mint-name is clear. It is also worthwhile to compare it with Shahjahan's
issues of Katak, in exactly the same type, dated AH1069/RY32 which indicate
that coins in the name of Shahjahan were briefly revived after the defeat of
Shah Shuja'a earlier in AH1069. |
