The Sungas. 2nd century B.C. AR karshapana Pieper 151. This is an important coin in Hindu iconography.
It has the earliest numismatic depiction of Lord Balarama, an avatar of
Vishnu and the elder brother of Lord Krishna. It was issued in the Mathura
region during the post-Mauryan period under Sunga rule. |
