Daulat
Shah bin Maudūd has been identified with Malik Ikhtiyār al-dīn
Balkā Khaljī, who is said to have seized control in Bengal after
the death of Īltutmish’s eldest son, Mahmūd, in Lakhautī.
On the coins, Īltutmish is called the supreme
sultan (al-sulṭān al-a‘ẕam). While Daulat calls himself the
munificent king of king’s (shahanshāh
bādhil), the arm of the vice-regent of God, the supporter of the
commander of the faithful. The caliph, al-Mustanṣir is also quoted.
