Tanka |
? |
It is not certain
whether this unique tanka, in the state Archaeological Museum, Calcutta, is
actually a coin of this ruler. In stylistic terms it fits into this period,
but the name on the coin may be Muḥammad rather than Maḥmūd.
The kunya of abū naṣr does not otherwise occur on this ruler’s
coins, indeed, in the Bengal series it occurs only on the coins of Shams
al-dīn Muẕaffar, some 50 or so years later, nor does the reverse
legend. Another specimen is needed with more of the right-hand side of the
obverse legend, and perhaps also a date. |
