History [1]

There are many references in the archives to the production of coins at Fort St David and, following the French capture of Madras, Fort St David became the main town of the Presidency. From here treasure, often in the form of newly minted coinage, was distributed to Calcutta and the Northern factories, of which the main was Vizagapatam, which then distributed on to Ingeram, Madopollam, Ganjam and Masulipatam. Fort St David also supplied Fort Marlborough in Sumatra with coinage.
